DIA - The Diamond Advanced Test
The Driving Instructors Association (DIA) developed the DIAmond Advanced
Motorcyclist Test and it is the only advanced test in the UK which uses the approved Driving Standards Agency's test marking system.
Passing the test will prove beyond doubt that you can ride safely in a variety of road and traffic conditions, and that you can manoeuvre your machine accurately, under control and with proper regard for the safety of other road users. Special Offer
It will demonstrate unequivocally that you have improved your riding technique, your observation and road skills. You will be a better, safer rider. And you may even qualify for a discount on your insurance premium.

How good do you have to be? Quite a lot better than when you took your L test. DIAmond examiners will use the DSA Cardington marking system and you will be marked down for making more than six minor errors. Note that this isn't the same as six or more errors on your practical L test as the standard of the advanced test is higher. In other words, 3 riding faults on an L test isn't the same as 3 riding faults on an advanced test.
After the figure-of-eight and slow riding sections, which necessarily take place off public roads, the on-road element of the test, over 35 or 40 miles, should take 60 minutes to complete, depending on conditions for the day. Routes cover a variety of busy roads in built-up areas, derestricted roads including dual carriageways and, where possible, motorways.
If you really want to stretch yourself, there is the DIAmond Special Test. This is a tougher test of riding ability and available to motorcyclists in the UK. The test follows the same procedure as the DIAmond Advanced Motorcyclist test, but instead of six errors, only two, provided they are not repeated, will be acceptable for a pass and the test lasts 90 minutes instead of 60. The examiner will be looking for the perfect ride in total safety. Paul will advise on any further training requirements.
