Here's a brief background to In-Gear™

In-Gear™ was established in 1998 as a driving school and as an Approved Training Body (ATB), licensed by the Driving Standards Agency to provide motorcycle rider training for Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) and Direct Access. Today it also specialises in post-test,  advanced riding and instructor training courses. Paul Dickinson is the owner and founder and the school remains very much a family operation. Since December 1998 the ATB has been based in North Somerset.

However, on February 15th 2010 Paul was able to announce that In-Gear™ had acquired Ace Instructor Services, based in Bridgend, South Wales. That school will also now be known as In-Gear and it delivers a complete range of courses to suit everyone. It has an airfield site to provide Module 1 and Module 2 Direct Access courses, and a range of further advanced courses aimed at developing riding skills.

Paul made two friends in particular whose friendship ultimately changed the direction of In-Gear™. They are Brian Westlake-Toms and Dave Mobberley. Brian is the former police instructor trainer of South Wales Police Driving School for cars and bikes. Brian first met Paul many years ago when South Wales Police offered Paul a career as a car driving instructor delivering courses to police employees.

Dave Mobberley is the managing director of Thunder Road Motorcycles in Wales. As a consequence of this friendship Paul and Dave work together offering a range of training services from Thunder Road Motorcycles, and Brian. although retired from In-Gear (Ace), is a part-time trainer within the school. It is with special thanks to them for their fantastic support that today In-Gear™ offers even more than ever before. Courses now include trips to France, Spain and the Nürburgring in Germany, as well as the beautiful areas of England, Wales and Scotland.

Paul developed an online hazard perception product and launched it in May 2007. It is an extremely useful learning package for new drivers and riders in particular. To see the site please go here www.hazardperceptionchallenge.co.uk. RoSPA has this product under licence from Paul and the national driving school What Car? recommends it to all their instructors and students. In-Gear™ now provides a complete 'one-stop' service from CBT to trips at the famous Nürburgring.

The post-test/advanced and instructor training courses are being offered from Bristol and Wales. For Wales the In-Gear™ training centres are at Thunder Road, one of the UK's most successful motorcycle dealerships with branches at Bridgend and Newport.

Additionally Paul has developed his own course, The Art of Riding. This course is different to anything presently available and is a process of coaching and assessment in four key skills sets. The scheme specifically coaches riders with a full motorbike licence to any level they choose to ride at.

Paul has various key qualifications in riding and in the coaching of motorcyclists including that of being a Diamond Advanced Instructor and Examiner. For some it may be helpful to know that Paul also has a clear Enhanced Disclosure for the CRB check, now required by some authorities prior to conducting any training.

All the In-Gear courses are very enjoyable and cater for all standards from those starting out to the highest levels of skills required for riding motorcycles on the roads. Rider safety is always the main priority so, no matter which course you choose, you can be confident that you will receive the right training to make you a better rider.

All the post-test courses include riding out in the South West of England and Wales. All levels of courses run all the year round and only the most severe weather conditions stand in the way of being able to say that they run every day.

So that you can hear what it might be like listening to Paul over the radio and sample too what you could learn, please see these four short instructional videos from Paul's bike.
